Nope. I've read books with disturbing themes and still liked them for what they were. This one is a big fat nope for me. ( )

Tuve que haber hecho caso a las advertencias, este libro es realmente oscuro y pertubador. No se dejen engañar por la apariencia rosa y tierna de la portada.

Este es otro de esos libros de "les-gusta-a-todos-menos-a-mi". La escritura es, en realidad, buena. El libro comienza con muy buen ritmo, sin embargo a partir de allí sólo va en picada.

Luego del coqueteo inicial no logré conectarme con Nick y Megan, a pesar de los tiernos momentos que describía la autora la química era inexistente, es casi como si Nick fuera únicamente un relleno en la historia y no formara realmente parte de ella.

Ese mismo problema lo tuve con la familia de Megan. Vamos, recuperan a su hija después de 2 años secuestrada, saben que fue abusada y lo más conmovedor que hacen es servirle un trago y darle galletas, ¿en serio?

Aquí vienen spoilers, así que si no quieres que te arruine la "sorpresa" del libro deja de leer.

La policía. Ok, a partir de allí simplemente ODIÉ totalmente el libro. ¡¿Cómo es posible que la policía sea la causante de que vuelvan a secuestrarla?! ¿Y todo el cuento del secuestro? Totalmente pertubador e incluso algunas partes fuera de lugar.

Yo se que un secuestro no puede ser algo feliz, pero si vas a hacer una escena de un secuestro, porque es realidad de lo que se trata el libro, entonces hazla con elementos que aporten algo a la historia y no sólo con la finalidad de agregar escenas de sexo pertubador.

Y por último, el final, totalmente terrible. Sin ninguna sensación de bienestar ni de esperanza. Simplemente con palabras de terror y de miedo permanente.

Todo en este libro parece formulado para hacer sentir mal al lector. Juro que es casi como un Dementor: siento que mató un pedacito de mi alma. Ni siquiera la llamada "historia de amor" valió la pena. Terrible terrible. Y sólo tiene dos estrellas por las primeras 70 páginas, porque sino, ni eso. ( )

The blurb pulls you in with the promise an emotional journey for a young girl named Megan. We meet her, not long after her escape from some horrible events in her life. She keeps her head down, and tries to not be noticed. And this is where the heart wrenching story begins.

Megan in broken young girl, hiding from her past. She has the emotional and physical scars to remind her. She works almost everyday to cover her rent, never takes off work, she’s quiet. Her goal is stay off the radar, and let the people who hurt her find her. Megan might severely damaged, but she is a survivor. Enter Nick, he is new to diner where she works, he is handsome and sweet and something draws her to him. The big question is, who is he? Can she really trust him? She wants to remain hidden. But they start a friendship that slowly grows into something more. They were amazing characters, and there was no way that I couldn’t want to fix them and want some happiness for them both.

With the blossoming romance between Megan and Nick, pieces of Megan past comes back to her, she is Claire, the missing girl whose family has been looking for. I wasn’t really prepared for the plot to go the way it did. It turned into a dark story of sex trafficking and the horrible things that happen. I will say that it is not for the faint hearted. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear what she has been through, and it was horrible, no person should ever have to experience the things she had to do, and has done to her, and Nicks guilt for not finding her sooner was palpable. I think the twist toward the end of the story is what just about did me in. Talk about gut wrenching, and lead up to the ending. I was happy with the ending, but it tore my heart to pieces none the less.

Nearly Broken is a heart breaking story that takes you to a place your minds doesn’t want to go, following these two go to hell and back. It contains some subject matter that was emotional and disturbing and some very graphic scenes of rape, and has a trafficking ring. Ashley’s writing was wonderful, blending it all together and it is a beautiful story of courage, strength and love. It has me captivated from the beginning. Don’t miss out on this one.
