Beyond the Past (The Caney Creek Series Book 2) by Jo Huddleston Have read the previous book in this series but there seemed to be a lot more characters involved. Jim, to me is like the matriarch of the family and he takes family business seriously. He is the one they all go to, to get a problem fixed. Story also follows Caroline-who Jim had once loved when they were younger. Their lives went in different directions. What I like about this book is that the problems are daily struggles with up to date problems still in our society. I also love the different age groups and what solutions are tried that are out of the box area. Love the travel and just the stay at home and have a picnic atmosphere. A lot of praying is done before the situations are even thought out totally. Turn of events with just one phone call and liked that this was not a predictable book. I was given the book by Book Fun (The Book Club Network) and this is my honest review. A Good Story! It was great being introduced again to some of the characters from "That Summer", Book One of The Caney Creek Series. Jim Callaway has not had an easy life but it has been as satisfying as he could make it. Jim has raised a daughter on his own and is proud of the way she has turned out. Emmajean, Jim's baby sister finds herself possibly facing a jail sentence. Will she end up going to jail? Jim's best friend Arthur, (Bones), goes through some trying times and Jim stands by his side through it all. This book brings together what family is all about. Faith and forgiveness is shown in this book. The author shows the importance of prayer and leaning on God's Word throughout the pages. I might add that there are some surprises in this book. I even felt my eyes filling with tears many times. I encourage you to pick up a copy of, Beyond The Past. Be sure to read, That Summer, first! I can't wait for Book 3 to be published! geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Emmajean Callaway's life in Atlanta plummets from bad to worse. Can big brother, Jim, lead her back to the family who loves her and also hold the imploding Callaway family together? Jim Callaway looks forward to 1951 and the chance to forge a relationship with Caroline after twenty years apart. He's sidetracked when his sister and his best friend need his help. His baby sister, Emmajean, skids into jail on drug charges in Atlanta. The ordeal of incarceration and trial diminishes her and she needs rescuing, not only physically but spiritually. She struggles toward recovery and restoration with her lawyer's help as he champions her inside and outside the courtroom. Jim's nephew Art is one step ahead of the truant officer, wrecks his car, and officials suspect alcohol is involved. Art awaits his fate at the hands of the juvenile court judge. Jim and Caroline continue their bumpy journey as they seek realization of their dreams, wondering if they really can overcome obstacles to their being together after so many years. Jim is a great character. He is a man who lives ups to his responsibilities and it shows through his daughter that he raised. I loved how the series is based on family values and a love that runs deep. Isn't it nice to know that no matter what, your family has your back? Emmajean will find out just how important it is to have a close family when she finds herself in trouble. I think Emmajean means well but sometimes she forgets what is important. She may be a bit too trusting and finds herself asking for help from her brother. Have you ever trusted someone, only to find out you were being used?
There are a few other characters in the book that I really enjoyed getting to know. But what I most liked about this story is the deep faith the characters have. It is a refreshing story that brought tears to my eyes at times. I wanted so bad for everything to turn out well . The story shows how important forgiveness is. There are a few surprises that I loved and thought were brilliantly written . I love this author's writing so much and can't wait to read another book from her.
I received a copy of this book The BookClub Network. The review is my own opinion. ( )
