Ian struggling with his demons from the Great War, often hunting men in the same condition. This one takes place in the Fens and has lots of atmosphere and colorful locale and locals as well as the psychological depths these books keep exploring. I loved getting to know the characters and trying to piece together the mystery. The majority of the characters in this book are very likable. I know that there are many books by Mr. Todd featuring the detective Ian Rutledge, however, I am sad to know that many of the characters in this book would not be featured in other books. The only true complaint that I had about this book was that, at times, the author seemed quite "long-winded". There were times where I felt like he was dragging out things that were not very important. But, that is a very minor complaint. I would probably recommend this book to anyone, but especially those who enjoy the mystery genre. ( ) nicholthecat | May 24, 2019 |
