It‘s a lovely book, with beautiful artwork and hand-lettered quotes of women in fiction. It does not take long to get through. This volume is inspired by more-classic literature, which may be why it only has two POC represented (Pecola from The Bluest Eye, and Lady Kiri Tsubo from The Tale of Genji). It was published in 2013. ( ) A beautiful collection of quotes and illustrations from fictional female characters in various books. In Well Read Women, Samantha Hahn uses her beautifully elegant watercolor style to bring to life characters such as Emma by Jane Austin or Cosette from Les Miserables by Victor Hugo to name a few. This is only a collection of portraits and quotes and not a novel. A great coffee table book to flip through for the art and inspiration. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
A treasure of a gift for the well-read woman, this collection brings together 50 stirring portraits, in watercolor and in word, of literature's most well-read female characters. Anna Karenina, Clarissa Dalloway, Daisy Buchanan...each seems to live on the page through celebrated artist Samantha Hahn's evocative portraits and hand-lettered quotations, with the pairing of art and text capturing all the spirit of the character as she was originally written.
