"A new generation of megabrands like Facebook, Dropbox, AirBnb, and Twitter haven't spent a dime on traditional marketing. No press releases, no TV commercials, no billboards. Some good high level principles that could have been summarised in an article. The cynic in me read this as a detail-absent but detail-inferred book that in fact is a matketing job for the marketing consulting services of its author. The entire approach is utterly capitalist, thoroughly American, and ultimately quite the symbol of our times: a book about marketing, that is built through a marketing channel approach so that each individual idea contained in it is marketable, and the primary ideas within it are all about how one needs to embed marketing into everything - a book which then markets itself by branding, labelling and selling every vague and banal statement as a unique and new breakthrough insight that will supercharge your future! All that is solid melts to air, and then we melt that air and then melt that and then sell you the top 5 tips on how to melt melted air. Having said all that, the book can still be useful to read to get onself into the mindset and excited about one's projects in the "tech space," as they say. ( )
