Half Romani, noblewoman Evangeline Caruthers is the last woman in England Ian Hamilton, the Viscount Warrick, could ever love-an immoral wanton responsible for his brother's and father's deaths. Vangie thinks Ian's a foul-tempered blackguard, who after setting out to cause her downfall, finds himself forced to marry her-snared in the trap of his own making. When Vangie learns the marriage ceremony itself may have been a ruse, she flees to her gypsy relatives, declaring herself divorced from Ian under Romani law. He pursues her to the gypsy encampment, and when the handsome gypsy king offers to take Ian's place in Vangie's bed, jealousy stirs hot and dangerous. Under a balmy starlit sky, Ian and Vangie breech the chasm separating them, yet peril lurks. Ian is the last in his family line, and his stepmother is determined to dispose of the newlyweds so her daughter can inherit his estate. Only by trusting each other can Ian and Vangie overcome scandal and murderous betrayal.… (meer)

Its a good story, he does treat her badly at first, based on misinformation that she has had many lovers he hurts her on their wedding night. He realizes things are not adding up and gets to know her better. The story is quite long, i think its because there are quite a lot of musings in both characters heads, a lot of detail. But i didn't mind. I am looking to read book two. ( )

This was a very interesting story. I liked how Vangie is proud of her Roma heritage. She's almost always armed with a dagger/knife on her body. She's fairly upfront with her new husband, only he doesn't believe her when she insists that she's a virgin. (Men can be so stupid.)
The evil stepmother--WOW. Can we say "Cruella De Vil"??? But I love the house staff for being so willing to keep Vangie safe, even if she's locked up in the tower. ( )

This is my first time reading this author and let me tell you, she is very good.

I loved the character of Ian Hamilton, the Viscount Warrick. What a great hero! He starts off with a vengeance in mind, but as soon as he realizes his folly, he’s more than ready to apologies and set things right for our poor, misguided and beautiful heroine, Evangeline Caruthers.

This was an entertaining and enjoyable read from start to finish because of authors use of a range of emotions, from betrayal ...thanks for jumping to b2b to finish reading my review ...

First, I loved the cover on this book. So many times published / authors pick a cover and it seems too modern. The male and female look like a very old picture, it was perfect for this book.

Okay I only have one problem with this book. This location is according to my K3. On page 128 Vangie stabbed a would-be robber with her dagger "Flabbergasted, his jaw hanging open, Ian gaped. Vangie's jeweled dagger, impaled to the hilt, protruded from the robber's back." Then on page 256 "She'd not seen him like that since the night she shot the highwayman." First she stabbed someone with her dagger, I can understand this. But a little over 100 pages later it is stated that she shot the highway man. Unless something was edited out of the book then this is a major error. This was not an ARC copy, I purchased a copy because I hate reading from PDF's. Just wondering how a mistake like this got pass editors and the author?

I really did enjoy the book. The only problem I found is above. I liked how Vangie was not the average female. I do wonder how she never knew two men fought a duel over her. It seems like this would have been the `on-dit' for the gossiping ton. I know females were sheltered more in these times than today, but still if two men fought a duel over her someone would have told her.

Then I wonder why Ian did not just question Vangie or her uncle about everything he thought was fact? He took everything so-called acquaintances word as fact but would not ask any questions.

Thanks for a fairly interesting read.

The bunnies and I give this book 3 carrots. ( )

Another incredibly entertaining novel from Collette Cameron! When Ian sees Vangie across a ballroom, he can’t believe how innocent she looks, however he believes he knows the truth about her immoral behavior. And he’s out to teach her a lesson. After finally getting the chance to talk to her, he doesn’t know what to do when Vangie faints in his arms. When he tries to help her himself, instead of running for help, he finds himself in a very shocking situation, marry her or lose his honor. Determined not to be another of her victims, he agrees to marry her, but what he doesn’t know is how very innocent she truly is. When Ian learns the truth about Vangie, will it be too late to build a lasting relationship with her? Will his determination to right the wrongs he’s caused her be enough for her to return to him?

Vangie knows that some of the things Ian says and does doesn’t exactly make sense, but trying to make the best of her marriage, she’s willing to overlook his displeasing nature. When she learns that the marriage to him may be a sham and that he secretly set out to ruin her from the start, she’s had enough. She runs to the waiting arms of her Romani clan. When Ian follows her there to declare his true intentions, will she accept the truth he gives her? Will she trust him with the heart he so brutally destroyed or turn him away forever?

A very enjoyable and riveting read by Ms. Cameron! I simply loved both the hero and the heroine in this novel! Vangie’s forgiving and pleasing nature, mixed with Ian’s passionate and protective persona gives this novel a truly exquisite mix of emotion. I loved how Vangie always tried to look on the positive side of everything, even when nothing seemed to go her way. Reading along as Ian desperately tried to prove his loyalty and devotion to Vangie after their horrific start was very touching. The added drama from Ian’s stepmother made me keep turning the pages, well after time for me to put down the book! This book is a great read for anyone looking for drama, action, and romance. While this book is Book 2 in a series of novels, you do not need to read the first novel in order to understand the story or characters. It is a great stand-alone read! I am looking forward to reading other novels by Ms. Cameron, especially her next book The Earl’s Enticement.
