Two little birds hatch, grow up, make the long migration journey, live in their summer habitat, make the journey back and eventually find mates and nest. Loosely based on orchard orioles, but very loosely. A nice cyclical nature story; my only complaint is that the adult reader may need to make it clear that the two little birds (clearly sibs) didn't mate with *each other*. Soft tinted illustrations more in the cute, impressionistic vein than realist, and a good repeating chorus for reading aloud. I'd be tempted to pair it with Flip, Flap, Fly.

Oh my gosh, we love this book. It is a sweet story about two little birds who migrate. Their journey is described and although there are some tense moments, it is not scary for very young children, but hopeful! ( )

Attractively illustrated story about two young orioles. The story is supposed to be about migration but the text is a bit lacking in that approach. ( )

The illustrations are beautiful and the language is simple, yet understandable as a story. It teaches migration as well as showing young children that they can do what they set their mind to, if they just keep trying.

As an educator I read this book to two different age groups, mid-twos and older children, around 4 or so. The young children processed the story through the images and did not relate to the text as much as the older children did. They mostly used the book to tell their own story about siblings or friends. The older children asked more questions because of the text feeling a little less like typical story books they had read. I was afraid that the writing would be a little too poetic for them, but through their questions and group discussion they learned a lot.

This is a sweet book that would go well with a unit on birds or friendship. It is also a good story to read to a child who is maybe thinking a task is too great for them. If the birds can fly that far and tell each other "you can make it", you just might be able to go far too. ( )

I received a copy of the book in the mail with all the pages already fallen out. I am not sure what happened, but I can't seem to find a way to contact the author. I would like to review the book but would need an intact copy
