4.25 STARS--Rockstar romances...they are everywhere. Sometimes it's hard to weed the good ones from the bunch. I found it in writing duo, Sue Holston's delicious MM Romance "Facing the Music".
Magazine reporter Graham Henderson has been contracted to follow one of the hottest rock bands, Texas Madmen, on their cross country tour. The group headed by the sexy Ethan James does not like reporters. Their band manager thinks otherwise and the forced relationship between the reporter and the musicians is a rocky one, to say the least. The beginning scene with Graham trying to introduce himself to Ethan at his home? Hilarious.
The Texas Madmen have good reason to distrust reporters, the band members have a lot of dirty laundry: nymphomania (Hi Lars!
Lars, the horny blonde guitarist is the standout of group and book for me. I would love to party with him, I'm sure it'd be legendary and bail would be set pretty high. The other band members were great (erm, Nate too) but Lars made me smile even though he wad just a minor character. Graham and Ethan find a connection and fall for one another but can Graham resist the tempting dirt he finds on all five group members? I commend Graham for the path he chose. It made for an enjoyable read. Both likeable beta men that finds happy together.
Why not five stars?
Well...the attraction between the main characters was believable, there still was an insta-love feel to it for me. Plus one of MC pulls a bonehead move in the last 10%. The aggrieved party does all the work to get his man back on track. I would have appreciated a little more groveling. I'm happy with the ending, it's romantic and again believable especially for the members of the Texas Madmen. Some of the drama they dealt with was painful but realistic. I totally would have bought their CD. Plus, a little pet peeve of mine...I need to know how the characters look especially the MC. We were told eye colors but what about their hair? It was minor niggles.
But the story is solid. Okay sometimes the sweet parts were getting ready to hit Cheeseville but luckily something happened to save it. Yes there was drama but nothing over the top. For the lifestyles the men portrayed, I bought it. The ending for each group member was different, some sad, hopeful, angsty and happy.
And authors...here is my plea. Please don't leave Lars and Aiden hanging. Both men deserve a HEA, together or apart. This rock band with their dimensional characters...they have legs for another go round. *cough*sequel*cough*
Enjoyable musician MM Romance this was. A new pair of authors for me check out I will." ( )
