Review of Dover Park
By: Bruce Fottler

This seems to be a modest story that I have been asked to review with an intriguing twist at the end. Two brothers, Tom and Jim seem to have normal lives when this young teenage girl appears on the scene claiming to be the daughter of Jim. His wife Sara is shocked at first, but immediately is taken in by the girls’ sweetness and vulnerability. Rachael, the girl, is a really good actress and is taken in by the family and treated as one of their own children. Jim and Sara have two boys and have always wanted a daughter so it was easy for Rachael to fit in. Tom, Jim’s brother, is a police detective and tries to cover up anything having to do with the mysterious appearance of the girl. As the story is laid out, it twists and turns with unexpected happenings around every corner. It will keep you guessing and wondering until the last page.. This book was a gift for a review and I have it online. ( )

This book is easy to read and I liked it. I thought it is just a good summer story because it was obvious what is happening. Well… It’s not. The last few chapters were really unexpected. Although you think you know all the characters well, you probably don’t. And that’s the best part. ( )

So full of twists and turns that I almost couldn't believe it, and at points I didn't, but the epilogues tie everything up very nicely. Requires concentration to read because the plot moves quickly and not in the direction you expect! ( )

Thank you to LibraryThing and the author Bruce Fottler for providing me with an e-copy of Dover Park in exchange for an honest review. I very rarely give 5 stars to any book but this one definitely deserves it. What makes this book different from other novels is that this mystery leads you in one direction for a while and then swerves completely into another direction. Just when you have adjusted to the new plot, everything changes again. I don't want to get into the plot of the book because it might give away too much information. All I can do is strongly encourage you to read Dover Park. This is one mystery you will not soon forget. ( )

The subject of this book is quite creepy: a teenager returns home and no-one recognizes her.
It reminded me of a story of Lovecraft.
It was different, but I still liked reading the book.

It was a pity the book took the viewpoint of the people of the house she re-entered. It took away quite a lot of the tension of the story.
The story is slow, too slow for my liking.
Then, when it gets faster, it gets too fast.

And the end is, I am sorry to say, downright unbelievable.

But before you reach that point, you have spent nice hours reading the book. ( )
