Arvel Amaya is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. In this installment in the Paranormal Crime Unit, Henri is having second thoughts about his relationship with the golem, Micah. There is just an awful lot that they don't know about each other. Henri's misgivings are put on the back burner when a psychic convention pulls into town headed by a famous psychic and charlatan, Hugh Wilkens. Suddenly burnt bodies begin to show up and the PCU knows that they have a pryromancer on their hands. To complicate matters further, the lead detective, Ray, hates psychics and gays and wants Henri as far away from the case as possible. Allison becomes mixed up in the crime and nothing can keep Henri out of the investigation including a nasty chunk of his past. I enjoyed this longer story much more than the previous two much shorter stories. The personal tension between Henri and Micah showed that their relationship is much more than the great sex. I thoroughly enjoyed the testosterone contest between the hard nosed Ray and the normally unflappable Henri. The character of Hugh was well written and is a real slime who is only out to make some quick cash. The introduction of Allison's gift will hopefully add more dimension to future books in this excellent series. The plot twists and turns along with the cliff hanger ending makes this book a must read. ( )
