This is a futuristic story about a guy who is almost too smart. He works for IBI or what I assume would be the FBI in our time. He’s a genius who is about to find that he does not know a lot about what is really going on around him but his curiosity will get the best of him. He can close a murder case in minutes but cannot seem to figure out why everything points to the impossible in his last case. When his life is turned inside out through a phased dream he finds that just because it doesn’t seem to be possible that everything is possible if you have the ability to accomplish it. Pretty good read, was not one of the best I have read in reference to dream/fantasy thrillers but well worth it. This can be a bit confusing but you have to keep pace or you may get lost. I'm not entirely sure what genre to classify it as --- there was some cool futuristic tech mixed with a little sci-fi and perhaps a bit of fantasy? --- unless you count AWESOME as a genre ;) I totally dug Knite's writing style and I absolute LOVED Adem's voice! I will definitely be checking out future books in this series :) Deze bespreking was geschreven voorLibraryThing lid Weggevers. I received "Echoes" by Therin Knite (self-published) through Librarything.com."Echoes" is a good title for this book that echoes so many other books and films. Our hero, Adem Adamend is a gifted young man driven to join the police in order to find the murderer of his mother. Adem's gifts echo those of Sherlock Holmes, especially the Moffit Gadiss incarnation. His lucid dreaming echoes countless SF and fantasy stories. The book's payoff echoes that of many others. Echoes notwithstanding, this is a well written book with lots of potential to become a rewarding series. The only misstep note is a one-off statement that the year 2667 is "history." I don't think so. The world Mr. Knite describes is too like our own to be that far in the future. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderdeel van de reeks(en)Echoes (#1)
September 2712As a young upstart at the Interdistrict Bureau of Intelligence, Adem Adamend has it rough. He does all the work and gets none of the credit, and his "kid genius" status hurts more than it helps. Then hotshot lawyer Victor Manson is burned to death in his own back yard, and Adem finds himself using his unique skills to piece together the strangest crime he's ever seen. Strange because the only possible suspect Adem can pin the murder on...is a mythical beast. Before Adem can unravel the mystery of Manson's death, the Bureau loses jurisdiction to the secretive EDPA, an organization that investigates weird and deadly events. But Adem isn't one for giving up, so he takes it upon himself to delve deeper into EDPA's machinations, into the series of unfortunate events that led to Manson's demise. And what he finds may change the way he views the world-and himself-forever.
