For the inquisitive mind young OR old...this series by Carole Roman is perfection. The reader learns while having fun.....Bollywood i had no idea is in India. The names and pronunciations of places, food, kids names etc. with a short glossary in the back. Fantastic book report idea for a youngster! ( ) This is one in a series of books that teach children about some of the real life differences in many countries around the world. Having worked as a children's’ lead in a bookstore chain I know books like these are hard to find for children. It is perfect for one of those assignments that teachers create for kids and is better than some encyclopedia. There are not a lot of pages as it is a picture book but there are some Indian words that might give some trouble. The author (Carole Roman) thought of that and has a pronunciation guide. I wish when I was a kid there were books like these focusing on a different country each book. It would have made a many book report easier and maybe would have encouraged me to learn more because it’s simple way it is written. I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I really hope that Carol P. Roman continues this series until every country in the world is covered. "If You Were Me and Lived in India" is a great addition to the set which continues to provide great multicultural perspectives to children. In this entry, we learn that children in India love to play cricket, call their mothers 'Maaji' and spend rupees to see popular Bollywood films. For the most part the text is clear and easy to read on a solid colored page, with the accompanying illustration on the opposite page. I find the text to be a little more difficult to read when it is superimposed on an image, but that's less common. Overall, a great addition to the series. By reading this book, you can introduce your child to unique tidbits about India. Through the words and pictures your child will learn about the places to visit, the food to eat, the games to play and even the types of clothes they wear. I had never heard of the Holi celebration and it reminded me of the "5K Color Runs" that we do here. It makes me wonder if someone got the idea from a Holi celebration while visiting India. As in everyone of Roman's books you will be sure to find vivid illustrations and information interesting to both parent and child. A glossary at the end will help you learn and pronounce Indian terms. This exciting new children's series written by Carole P. Roman, focuses on learning about and appreciating the many cultures that make up our small planet. Interesting facts and colorful illustrations help children to realize that although the world is large, people all over the globe are basically the same. Perfect for children from Pre-K to age eight. I enjoyed reading this series, myself. In my opinion, each book teaches children about new cultures effortlessly - in a way that is entertaining and fully captures a child's attention. I give the whole series a definite A+! geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
