A desperate woman makes a most unusual offer to the only man who can help her in this spirited Regency romance hailed as "an irresistible pleasure" (Eloisa James, New York Times-bestselling author).   WINNER OF THE HOLT MEDALLION FOR BEST SHORT HISTORICAL NOVEL   Lady Fiona Hollingsworth will do anything to save her brother from the Spanish bandits who hold him captive. And to get the money for the ransom, Fiona is going to offer herself in marriage to the richest man in England, a broodingly handsome stockbroker.   Nicholas Birmingham brought himself up from nothing, earning everything he has through hard work--and not falling for any highborn nonsense along the way. But even though his good sense tells him to send Fiona off with her brazen proposal, he cannot turn away the alluring lady who's haunted his fantasies for so long.   Of course, a man has his pride, and Nicholas has no intention of revealing to his new bride how he feels. Yet, from the moment he slips his ring on Fiona's finger, desire and chaos are kindled.   Now, it's only a matter of time before both Fiona and Nicholas get past their own folly and the magic of the Christmas season brings true love to light in this "sinfully sexy Regency" (Booklist).… (meer)

Lady Fiona Hollingsworth needs money to pay off her brother's ransom, so she arranges a marriage of convenience with wealthy CIT Nicholas Birmingham. Nick is willing as the lady is beautiful and will raise his family in society.
It was an interesting and quick read which I enjoyed. There was some chemistry between the two main characters and the other characters added to the story. The plot had a good twist so all in all, an good read. ( )
