My toddler absolutely adores this book. She loves to do the "Shh" sound and whenever we're outside and see a bird she turns to us and says "Hello, Birdie...SHHH". It's a really nice children's book that teaches you to be nice to animals and it's gorgeously illustrated. ( )

This just made me laugh. "a plan"... NOT so much. ( )

This picture book was a cute book that shows the struggle of four boys who try to capture a bird in the wilderness. Though one of the boys was able to gather a whole crowd of beautiful birds with his warm nature and bread. This cute story could be used to practice the use of plot diagrams by identifying the characters, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution of this story. Overall this book was okay, but can be applicable to an English classroom in this type of scenario! ( )

Whenever a picture book does something a bit different, I take note. In the case of Shh! We Have a Plan, author/illustrator Chris Haughton does "different" really well.

For example...

- The color scheme is dark, but incorporates color beautifully, just when it's needed and in a stunning palette. Not often do I find a children's book in an inverted color scheme, but it is a wonderful change.

- Emotion is created almost entirely through the wonderful drawings of the characters' eyes. It's incredible how much is communicated so simply throughout each scene.

- The humor works for both children and adults, but never forgets its primary audience.

Overall, this is an absolutely fantastic picture book. Highly recommended.
