Buz Sawyer is one of my favorite adventure strips, but this volume does represent the beginning of a letdown after the marvelous first two volumes, which chronicle Buz's harrowing exploits during World War II, and the beginning of his romance with Christy. Here, Buz is a troubleshooter for an international oil company, engaged to Christy. After the high adventure of his WWII experiences, being an oil company adventurer doesn't quite measure up. And even though Christy is one of the more personable spitfires I've seen in adventure comics, the marriage that finally takes place in this volume signals an end to the free-spirited romances that spiced his earlier adventures. This is still a fine strip, with good art, interesting stories and snappy banter, all of which almost measures up to Milton Caniff's work. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderdeel van de reeks(en)
Buz Sawyer âe" adventurer, bon vivant, and former bachelor âe" canâe(tm)t let a little thing like romance and marriage slow him down. Buz knows that Christy is the only woman for him âe" brave, beautiful, and able to handle herself when the going gets tough, and just the kind of woman Buz needs when the chips are down âe" a lover and a fighter. And indeed, Christy has her mettle tested, because the road to marriage is a rocky one. First, Buz has to survive a hurricane in the Caribbean, a typhoon in the South Seas, and a stone cold killer with a deceptively mild manner and the innocuous-sounding name of Harry Sparrow. As if that werenâe(tm)t enough, Buz gets himself caught in a political hurricane when he gets trapped behind the Iron Curtain just as the Cold War heats up. And if you think Buz and Christyâe(tm)s African honeymoon is a picnic... think again. All of this is brought vividly and gorgeously to life through Roy Craneâe(tm)s sure-footed writing and stunning storytelling in the classic newspaper strip, a rollicking series of adventures filled with knock-out women, brutal assassins, and extremely bad weather.
