It was so over the top, and maybe I'm a sick person, but, I thought there were so many hilarious scenarios. These folks were all freaking crazy! I plan to read the next book when the last book comes out. I HATE a cliffhanger! I loved Liam and Melody.... ( ) A ruthless book for ruthless people. This was incredibly good. A modern day version of The Godfather with romance. Melody was epic. She was fierce, she was brutal and she was ruthless. I loved her humour, her unwillingness to compromise, her intelligence - I loved everything. Liam was alright. Lol, nah Liam was great too but I loved that when they clashed, Mel was the winner. I loved Mel putting Liam in his place. It was hilarious. They're both brutal AF and the chemistry between them is insane. If you love enemies to lovers stories, this is for you. Honestly I have no coherent words for this book. It's intense. It's insane. It's brutal. The women are both vulnerable and vicious. The girl power is fantastic. I like that Melody inspires and encourages the women of her acquaintance to be more. To compete in a world of men. To be unapologetic for who or what they are. Whether they want to be equals or just confident in their own right. The action is fast paced and full on and riddled with revelations and treachery and backstabbing and intricate backstories and gritty violence. My mind was just completely blown by this book. I honestly can't articulate just how much I adore it. J.J. McAvoy is an incredibly talented writer and this is an incredibly epic book. 5 stars. Wow. What to say about Liam and Mel? They’re villainous, vain and vituperative singly and then they get together to unite their families. If it weren’t so over the top wild then I wouldn’t have enjoyed it but it was, so I did. I don’t need characters to be likable or redeemed, I only need them to be interesting and this gave me that. I must admit I wanted more of the push/pull, love/hate between Liam and Mel because they got to the “I’d take a bullet for you” but in what seemed like days. It wasn’t insta-love but considering they began at a point where either could have killed the other, I needed more than that. I wouldn’t want to hang out with Liam and Mel but I can’t think of a couple who deserve each other more. I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a edgy read (or any of my girlfriends who enjoyed Wolf of Wallstreet). The profanity & vulgarity abound but it’s a fun, fast read and not a bad choice to read on a weekend. I was given a copy of this book by the publisher on Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderdeel van de reeks(en)Ruthless People (1)
Ruthless People #1…the book that started it all…… To the outside world, they look like American royalty, giving to charities, feeding the homeless, and rebuilding the city. But behind closed doors is a constant battle for dominance between two bosses, cultures, and hearts. Ruthless People is a romantic crime fiction set in modern day Chicago and follows the life and marriage of Melody Giovanni and Liam Callahan - rivals by blood and leaders through fear. Theirs is an arranged marriage with the goal of ending years of bloodshed between the Irish and the Italians. Liam assumes he's getting a simple-minded wife, one he can control, one who bends to his every need... he'll soon find out that his wife to be does not fit that mold. Melody knows exactly what type of man Liam is and would rather die than give up the power she has spent her life earning. The mafia of the past has evolved, and with rival bosses gunning for their family, Melody and Liam will have to learn to work as one to take down those who stand in their way.
