Well I raced through this one too. I loved how the different POVs were handled in each time period, and there was a good blend of love and angst and humor; Charlie and Scott and Adan were made for each other, even if it took so many years to get to their HEA. ( )

This is one of the most interesting books about a triad that I have read in a long time. Not only are the three men who are part of this permanent threesome characters with lots of issues who actually all need each other, but also how they find each other is pretty unique. Oh, and the way the author tells the story was great as well. Normally I don't like flashbacks, but in this novel, there was a reason for them to exist, they came in a well-marked manner, and they actually supported the story line. On a separate note: because of the way the author set them up I knew that Charlie was going to be all right - eventually. Without that knowledge I am not sure I would have made it through all the suffering he had to go through without giving up on the book. As a result of all these factors, I ended up really liking the book, even if Charlie's story made me cry more than once.

Charlie's life can be defined as happening in three main parts. In the beginning, when he is fifteen and a sophomore in high school, he meets Scott, his sixteen-year-old new neighbor, and falls deeply in love. Their discovery of who they are and what they mean to each other is that of teenagers: hesitant, sometimes fumbling, and characterized by a youthful exuberance that jumped off the pages. The effect when Scott moves away and they gradually drift apart, the pain it causes Charlie, is truly devastating.

But Charlie wouldn't be the amazing man he is if he didn't pick up the pieces to move on. His dancing career becomes his focus, and he is doing okay when he meets Adan. As attracted as he is, and as much as he sees inside the man, or thinks he does, Adan is a despicable bastard at that point. He is selfish, and while he is gay and makes no bones about being attracted to Charlie "in private", Adan has a problem accepting "flamboyant" gay men "in public". I could see that he was afraid to accept himself fully, to truly understand and live with the differences between straight and gay men, but he was not mature enough to get the point, and ended up hurting Charlie badly enough for them to break up.

Another five years later, Charlie runs into Scott and Adan - who are now a couple. I cant even imagine what that must have felt like for him! They were as shocked as he was, and luckily they know exactly what they want. It takes a little longer for Charlie to truly believe they are serious, especially Adan, who has a whole lot to prove before Carlie will trust him again.

If you like unusual triads, if you enjoy stories about men with flaws, issues, and a whole lot of adversity to fight before they can find happiness, and if you're looking for a read that is as emotionally intense as it is fulfilling, then you will probably enjoy this novel as much as I did. I think it's the best one in this series so far - and I really liked all of them!
