Nothing in life is ever easy, and no one is more painfully aware of that than Josiah Evans, Mateo Sanchez, and Tristan Croft. They know what they want-each other-but with three people as broken as they are, all those pieces aren't so easily mended. Josiah is their glue. All he wants is to give his men what they need. Mateo wants to absolve himself of his sins. To be worthy of love and to protect it. Tristan must let go of his past, must learn how to need, and what it really means to take care of someone. To keep the balance intact, they all have their roles to play. But what happens if the balance shifts? What happens when someone doesn't play the right part? If one of them falters, they all feel the strain. The only way to complete their full circle is for all their pieces, despite the curves and rough edges, to fit together perfectly. To do that, Josiah, Mateo, and Tristan must learn to get over the pasts that have defined who they are. And when an old enemy returns and threatens the foundation of their new life, decisions will be made, and boundaries will be tested that could change their lives forever.… (meer)

Josiah, Mateo, and Tristan have sort of settled in to being together. They want to be together. They love each other. But there are (very few) external forces working against them and (sooooooo many) internal forces working against them. Josiah is the sunny optimist who is essentially the catalyst for them all being together, since both Mateo and Tristan loved Josiah before they met each other. But they all love each other, and everything would be perfect, if it weren't for those pesky forces, both external and internal.

So, I read the first book in this series (admittedly several years ago), and in spite of my not really liking this author, I enjoyed it. A lot. So even though it took me years to get to the next in the series, in the back of my mind, I was looking forward to this installment. Cue the internal angst. All the internal angst. Over and over. About the same thing. I'm not good enough! I can't hold us together! I can't let people in! Over and over and OVER. Seriously, if you took out all the "I'm not good enough" wailing (in all the iterations, since the individual thoughts basically boiled down to not being enough for the others), the book would be about 100 pages long. That's a lot of going over and over and over and OVER the same thing. I know that I am coming across as a little (or a lot) unsympathetic. And I'm not, honestly. If people are having these thoughts or troubles in real life, I empathize. I listen. I commiserate. But I'm also not privy to their thoughts 24-7. And I'm also pretty sure (as someone who can spiral and obsess) that if I did have access to their thoughts, that they would not have the same thought over and over and over and over and OVER again. Because there would be breaks. I mean, people would have to think about food, or about responding to conversations that they were holding. But no! Not in this book! All they thought about was how broken they were, how they weren't good enough, how they could never be good enough. Over and over and over and over and OVER. So yeah. I don't think that I'm going to read the final book in the series, if this in an indication of how it will go, even though it is about two different characters. Because from the precis, it looks to be much of the same.
Ps: Authors, just because "broken" is in the title or the series name, it doesn't mean that you have to harp on it over and over and...you get the drift. ( )
