A fun book that mixes literature with programming by examining JavaScript written in a style that is similar to various authors. Much funnier if you have read books by the discussed authors. ( ) A light-hearted yet informative book, channeling the imagined style of a spurious selection of famous authors to illustrate how many different potential ways there are to solve a selection of programming problems. Most of the difficulty I had in understanding some of the more convoluted examples came from obfuscated variable names, which together with sometimes ample comments often formed the supposed literary part of the equation more than the code per se. Worth a look if you can get it for cheap, but I wouldn't pay full price. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
What if William Shakespeare were asked to generate the Fibonacci series or Jane Austen had to write a factorial program? In If Hemingway Wrote JavaScript, author Angus Croll imagines short JavaScript programs as written by famous wordsmiths. The result is a peculiar and charming combination of prose, poetry, and programming. The best authors are those who obsess about language-and the same goes for JavaScript developers.
