From Joshua Dalzelle, author of the bestselling "Omega Force" series, comes an all new vision of humanity's future. In the 25th century humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy? Would humanity fold and surrender, or would they return to their evolutionary roots and meet force with force? One ship--and one captain--will soon be faced with this very choice. Against incredible odds, Jackson Wolfe is determined to save humanity, and in the process, might end up saving himself...… (meer)

great start to a military sci-fi series. Somewhat predictable but entertaining none the less.

I want to know a couple of things?
1. What exactly were his orders after he dropped the spy off? He obviously went to the alpha quadrant but what was he supposed to do when he got there. It was only in passing that the Spy Pike mentioned that there were weird stuff happening there.
2. What happened to the guy who started and organized the mutiny? We are told he is hiding somewhere but they never go back to it.
3. How does one escape a super megaton nuclear detonation? Seriously?
4. Ensign/Lieutenant Davis seemed to be at her station for the whole book. She never got sleep, never ate, never took a shower or changed her clothes.

I liked the idea of it more than the execution. I did like our hero Captain Jackson and Commander Wright. ( )

Dalzelle, Joshua. Warship. Black Fleet Trilogy No. 1. Kindle, 2015.
Warship is a readable military SF novel that hits all the usual genre tropes. Humanity has spread to stars and been at peace for centuries. Now, our fleet of interstellar warships is being mothballed. Captain Jackson Wolfe has been ordered to take the outmoded warship Blue Jacket on one last tour of the frontier before the scrapyard. He is hated by his bosses because he is a native Earther. Some crewmembers are mutinous. Naturally, the Blue Jacket encounters a powerful hostile alien warship. Game on. 3.5 stars. ( )
