Sinnett lo dice claramente que el suyo no es un libro en donde se den "una colección de inferencias deducidas del estudio", sino que son conocimientos obtenidos "por medio del favor, mas bien que por el esfuerzo" Y efectivamente, la fuente nutricia de este libro le fue dada por las revelaciones de los pocos iluminados en la filosofía budista, que hasta ese momento habían sido absolutamente secretas e impenetrables al pensamiento occidental. Ese es pues el valor primogenio de estas páginas, que rescatan toda la profundidad de la enseñanza budista y los misterios de la filosofía oriental -que en realidad es toda una ciencia-, cuyo alcance sólo mínimante perfila su condición esotérica.
