Fay Merryweather rings a tea shop in her garden and tends to her horrible demanding bedridden mother. Her mother dies and leaves everything to her sister who never did anything for her mother and who has made a series of bad choices. Never fear, a knight appears and saves the situation. A bit shallow, but then I bought it because I wanted an easy read and it fitted the bill well enough. I'm pretty sure you can't exchange on a house before you get probate... I think my main beef with the book was that we see very little of Danny - he's away on his boat much of the time, and hence, it's hard to see why he's attracted to Fay because there's very little of them together. The main relationship is really between Fay and her fellow cook, Lija. Lija is definitely the character I most enjoyed. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Fay Merryweather runs her cake shop from her beautiful garden. She whips up airy sponges and scrumptious scones, while her customers enjoy the lovely blossoms and gorgeous blooms. Looking after the cake shop, the garden and her cantankerous mother means Fay is always busy but she accepts her responsibilities because if she doesn't do all this, who will? Then Danny Wilde walks into her life and makes Fay question every decision she's ever made. When a sudden tragedy strikes, Fay's entire world is thrown off balance even further and she doesn't know which way to turn. Can Fay find the strength to make a life-changing decision - even if it means giving up the thing she loves the most? Life, love and family are about to collide in The Cake Shop in the Garden. I have to say this novel is crying out for a sequel; I'm not sure if one exists, but there is indeed room for a follow up on the next instalment of the central character's lives.
I don't like to give spoilers, but I have to say that Fay Merriweather is kind and more giving in all stages of the novel than I could ever imagine being. And I have a sense of duty to some degree myself. ( )
