Fuck. That. Ending.
I want all the hours back I just spent listening to this bullshit.
And I'm not a reader who needs a happy ending all tied up in pretty packaging BUT I do need some sort of fucking proper resolution of the main plot. JFC... ( )

This was a book I couldn’t put down. Okay, I did put it down, but only because real life got in the way. Each page had me hooked. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next.

Yasmin really annoyed me though. She seemed younger than 15. In fact, she seemed more like she was 9 or 10. I couldn’t stand Yasmin. She annoyed me so much! One thing I wondered is why wasn’t she in therapy? The girl obviously has some mental issues going on. Also, the author wrote it as if she was very obese. While Yasmin is considered obese, I didn’t think she was super obese.

It was the plot that kept me hooked. I wanted to see if Alice was found and who did it. I kept reading to see if Yasmin would do the right thing.

I was not a fan of the ending though. I needed more closure.

I would recommend this book to those 14 . Even though Yasmin is really annoying, and I hated the ending, I still thought the plot was brilliantly written. ( )

I received THINGS WE HAVE IN COMMON through Goodreads First Reads in exchange for an honest review.

This novel wasn’t as thrilling as I was hoping. It is more of a mystery at a slow crawl. Most of the novel is the inner dialogue of the main character. While the author does a good job of depicting her obsessions and delusional thoughts, it was a tedious read for a while and often left me cringing and wondering why Yasmin would make certain decisions. I struggled to read the first half of the novel for that reason and put it down several times.

The book picks up a bit after the disappearance of Alice, the classmate Yasmin is obsessed with. She decides to confront the man she thinks took Alice and things get a bit interesting from that point on. I wish the author would have explored the other characters further instead of relying solely on the main character’s thoughts and perspectives of them. For better or worse, it left me wanting more.

The ending was the best part in my opinion, but it was “too little too late” for me. While I went into this book thinking it was going to be one thing and instead it ended up being something else, it was an enjoyable read. ( )

The first time I saw you, you were standing at the far end of the playing field near the bit of fence that's trampled down, where the kids that come to school along the wooded path cut across.
