“Your Guide to the Tarot” by Janet Berres; 157 pages, paperback. The book is from Llewellyn. The ISBN numbers in my copy refer to the "tarot kit" with which the book was purchased, rather than the book itself. This kit included a deck of the "Universal Tarot" by Roberto de Angelis (which is very closely patterned after the Smith / Waite deck, as a glance of any of the Minor Arcana will show. I would recommend this book to any novice who
wishes to begin the practice of divinatory readings right away. This book is strong on practical suggestions for performing readings and intuitively deriving meanings from the cards and layouts for querents. It is not a book which explores esoteric correspondences of the cards in a systematic and theoretical way (it was not intended to be such), although the author does enlist numerology and, even more so, astrology.

I've always had an interest in Tarot but have never had the opportunity to learn more than a cursory understanding of the craft. That being said, I can't really provide a recommendation on this book. It is certainly providing me with the basic understanding I need to get started with Tarot. I think it's safe to say that it provides everything a beginner needs to get started. ( )
