A standalone of the Refuge Inc. series Given a rare chance at sanctuary inside the subterranean Refuge facility, Damien and Patrick were lucky to survive the cataclysmic asteroid impact that left the world a dark, toxic wasteland. But has their luck finally run out? Chosen to confront the devastation above on a mission that can save the future of mankind, they emerge but quickly realize they might be unable to safely return to their comforts, their families, and the only home they've known since impact. Resurfaced
by Leslie Lee Sanders

Much more was resurfaced in this tense drama of our apocalyptic planet in the future where all of the remaining life lies miles underground. The best of our society is still struggling for power when 2 of the residents are forced to go to the surface to find traces of plant life in hopes of regaining the planet. In actuality, one of the male members realizes it’s a death march to pay him back for some wrong thing that happened in the past. The second does not believe it and sees hope in the process of finding life. As the two emerge from the tunnel to a sandstorm and toxic air, they fight for their lives when all goes awry. Book was gift for a review and have it online. ( )

I have very mixed feelings about this post apocalyptic novel. On one had the story line had great potential. In the beginning the tension built as the two scientist were going to the surface from the underground world that had been created to survive 'impact.'

Was it possible they were being sent to their death on purpose or was it truly a scientific mission to obtain samples? The company, Refuge Inc., that governs the new world has many secrets and those that find out about them usually disappear.

Great start and I was getting into it then Damien and Patrick, the scientist, begin becoming attracted to each other sexually. OK, on the surface not a problem. However, my issue is that they are on the surface of a dead planet, both have had families that they actively talk about and love, both have to be careful to survive in the atmosphere that is basically non-existent. I just find it implausible that any two people in this situation would be thinking about anything except staying alive in the harsh elements - no matter the reasons they are on the surface.

I received this book from the author in exchange for a review. For more information about Leslie Lee Sanders check here http://leslieleesanders.com/ ( )

To me this short book contains two parts. The first part I rather liked. There isn't happening much, but the depressing atmosphere really gets to you.

The second part contains the romance. Well... I didn't get it. Suddenly there is this connection between both characters and lust and everything. Why? How? I do know their situation isn't one you want to be in, but still... what?
There is a lot of drama in the second part, which on its own does make sense, but the way it was presented here, was in my eyes a little bit unbelievable. I think me not liking the characters has a part in this to be honest.

That being said, there are other books in this series and I think those might be better. The world building is really great and interesting and definitely different from what I am used to.

Disclaimer: I got a free copy through librarything's Member Giveaways and was asked to provide an honest review. ( )
