Veel mensen hebben het enthousiast over dit boek gehad, maar toen ik er in begon zag ik dat niet zo. Maar gaandeweg werd het erg leuk en spannend. Het verhaal van Lazlo Zonderling en Saria is ingewikkeld, want zij is het blauwe meisje uit zijn dromen en hij is de enige mens die haar kan zien. Er zitten stukjes in die ik echt met tranen in mijn ogen heb gelezen. Een dikke aanrader, maar wel doorzetten in het begin. En nu maar hopen dat het vervolg ook wordt vertaald. ( )

Zo lang hij zich kan herinneren is de dromerige, verweesde Lazlo Zondeling (20) gefascineerd door sprookjes, met name over de mythische, verloren stad Ween. Als bibliothecaris pluist hij alle boeken uit op zoek naar kennis en wordt het zijn levenswerk om de geheimen rond Ween te ontsluieren. Die gelegenheid krijgt hij als een groep Tizerkanen krijgers onder leiding van de heroĂŻsche Eril-Fane zijn stad aandoet om mensen met verschillende knowhow te verzamelen voor een missie naar Ween. Lazlo weet zichzelf aan te prijzen als expert in verhalen vertellen en mag mee. Eerste deel van een sprookjesachtige fantasyserie over wrede goden, achtergelaten halfgoden, gevangen geesten, haat en angst, een verloren stad met gestolen herinneringen, helden, monsters, nachtmerries en vooral dromen.
