A wonderful book in the form of poetry about a young girl who celebrates the differences of those she comes across while still holding on the the fact they are all the same. ( ) I really like the concept of this book and the idea it presents, however I do not like the way it was presented. To begin, the writing was strange. The story is written in the form of a song, and I couldn’t tell if it is supposed to be sung aloud, or just read with animation. I tried both, and it sounds better when it is read with animation, but it still doesn’t sound right. For example the book ends with, “I said isn’t it delightful, totally insightful, being with you this way! be-boop-a-doo-bop. Be-bop-boo.” The onomatopoeia does not match the preceding text, nor does it enhance the text. It would have been more effective had the author wrote the text in the form of a flowing poem. However, I love the message of the story. The book conveys the message that we are all different (physically) but our differences are what make us fun. I think that is a valuable concept for all kids to know. Additionally, the illustrations are very authentic, detailed and large. The photos definitely helped the text. When the text mentions differences in eye color, we can very clearly see in the illustration, different children with different eye colors. This is a wonderful book that tells children that although they are different, they are the same. It is written in a form that makes you want to sing it which any child would like. The best part of this book is that it lets kids know that although they are different it is wonderful to be with each other this way, which is on a play ground having fun together with no hate for each other. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
