"The New York Times bestselling author of The Sound of Glass and coauthor of The Forgotten Room tells the story of a woman coming home to the family she left behind--and to the woman she always wanted to be.... Georgia Chambers has spent her life sifting through other people's pasts while trying to forget her own. But then her work as an expert on fine china--especially Limoges--requires her to return to the one place she swore she'd never revisit.... It has been thirteen years since Georgia left her family home on the coast of Florida, and nothing much has changed except that there are fewer oysters and more tourists. She finds solace in seeing her grandfather still toiling away in the apiary where she spent much of her childhood, but encountering her estranged mother and sister leaves her rattled. Seeing them after all this time makes Georgia realize that something has been missing--and unless she finds a way to heal these rifts, she will forever be living vicariously through other people's remnants. To embrace her own life--mistakes and all--she will have to find the courage to confront the ghosts of her past and the secrets she was forced to keep..."--… (meer)

This book was like an easy, relaxing afternoon on the back porch with friends. Not edge-of-your-seat action, but a slowly developed drama with real characters and a satisfying ending. (I hate rushed endings, especially when barely-mentioned characters that you don't even remember end up playing a crucial role in the last pages.)
Flight Patterns is frequently called "Southern Fiction" and I'm not sure exactly what that means, but it's nice to get beyond the ridiculous stereotype of uneducated ill-mannered rednecks. Yes, it takes place in the South and I live in the South (New Orleans), and maybe that's why these characters felt real and comfortably familiar as people I might know.
Grab this book, fix a glass of iced tea (unsweetened, please!), sit on the swing and drift through an enjoyable afternoon or two. ( )

Georgia and her family has secrets that have kept them apart for more than a decade but soon the secrets come to light. Georgia takes on a client who wishes to sell his family China set. The China set has bees throughout the pattern which reminds Georgia of a piece she has seen among her Grandmother's possessions.

The clue to the value of the set may lie with the piece owned by her Grandmother. Georgia's boss advises her to go home to Florida to help solve the mystery off the China set. Georgia with great caution agrees to travel home with her client. Soon.the secrets of Georgia's family start to fall into place. ( )

I'm impressed with how White manages to get you to know her characters so well---you can see and hear all of them, no matter how complicated the story becomes. Although it was easy to early suspicions about how the book would evolve, I had certainly not figured out the details until the very end of the book. I've read several of Karen White's books but I'm glad I still have more to read! ( )

Beautiful writing.
The author has a way with words.
I felt like I really got to know that characters. I feel like I probably learned a lot about bees too.

I picked this book up because I enjoy this author's style, if you are new to Karen White's books this is a good one to start with.

It's a story of family secrets and forgiveness. This is a majorly fractured family and it takes a twist of fate, in the form of a man with a rare collection of china, to start the secrets unfolding.

I absolutely loved the character of James. He's practically a guardian angel.

I really enjoyed this book. Its definitely a genre that I navigate too. WWII survivors, the mix a past & present with a romance blooming, suspense and intrigue. Great read! ( )
