A light-hearted read with romance, BUT with a solid mystery and clues to follow along. The characters are solid (not caricatures) set into a theme of celebrity investigations. Fun! Fast! ( ) amateur-sleuth, women-sleuths, suspense, cozy-mystery, humor Quirky characters, interesting situations, and the trials of what amounts to auditioning for a new job makes for a fun mystery. Light hearted, but with suspense and an unusual basic premise. Caught me and insisted that I finish it promptly! Amber has to succeed in this assignment if she’s to work with the elusive Charlie in the Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency. If she fails, all the work she’s “gone through so far will be for nothing”—a repeated refrain. So now she has 24 hours to solve the mystery of the missing bride, aided or hindered by two other eager trainees. Readers will have a sense of past history between Amber and Charlie, but there’s no need to read the previous book before enjoying this one. The author creates a sense of people and place very quickly and tidily—the fact that the place is England’s beautiful Lake District is an added bonus—and there’s a nice sense of wonder to the question of who can be trusted. The language is enjoyably clean. Tension has a fast-action feel. And the first-person narration is nicely English, swift and clear. I enjoyed this fast read and would love to read more.
