I really liked this book because the story flowed well and kept the reader interested with adventure throughout the whole book. I hadn't read any of the previous books in the series and I could still read this book with no problems. I really liked how the writing was extremely detailed throughout the story giving the reader a sense of being in the story. For example, on page 12 it was describing an angry herd of centaurs, "These were angry centaurs, with rolling red eyes and bared white teeth and rearing hooves that pounded the ground so hard that it shook." I also liked that the book made comparisons to actual Greek mythology like Zeus, Poseidon, Hermes, and more. For example, on page 31 the main character, Demon, referenced Aphrodite, "Please be quiet you know how Aphrodite gets if she misses her beauty sleep."..."The beautiful goddess had threatened to make him fall in love with the giant scorpion." I think the main idea of this story is overcoming obstacles to help a friend in need. The main character faces many challenges to help cure his phoenix friend before he is gone forever. ( )
