First, I liked the book because of the creative text features it had. For example, on the first page there is a picture of a calendar which displays the month of June and has the date of the holiday, Friday the nineteenth, circled in red. The book also includes multiple maps that are clearly labeled. Another reason I liked this book is because of the author’s writing, which is very simplistic yet informational. The author uses short, basic sentences throughout the entire book. I like how the author also explains that Juneteenth is not the same as the Fourth of July, because children could easily mix up the two holidays since they are both during the month of June. Lastly, I liked this book because of its pictures. The book had real-life historical pictures, real-life modern day pictures, historical artwork, and more modern day illustrations. The pictures were arranged differently throughout the book as well. Some were huge, some were small, some were located at the top of the page, some at the bottom, some were placed diagonally on the page, and there was even a collage of pictures on one page. The big idea of this book is to inform readers about early African-American history, how Juneteenth came about, and how Juneteenth is celebrated today. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

HTML: In Texas, all slaves found out they were free on June 19, 1865. This day is known as Juneteenth. At first, it was a holiday in Texas, but now people celebrate Juneteenth all across the United States. Readers will learn about the history of the holiday as well as how it is celebrated today. In addition, they can prepare a delicious recipe for corn muffins and construct Juneteenth flag pinwheels to place in a garden, yard, or window. .Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
