Rex is about a baby dinosaur who doesn't know who his parents are and ends up getting "adopted" by a t-rex. The illustrations in this book are very memorable, and they really add to the text. This would be a good book to teach children about what adoption is, or to read to a student who may be gaining a sibling through adoption. Simon James did a great job in writing a fantasy book that could easily be related to real life events. ( )

An adorable dinosaur book about a T-rex that roars and frightens all the other dinosaurs. One day, while sleeping in a cave, a little dinosaur (who looks like a T-rex) hatches and makes a beeline for Rex. "Dad!" he cries. Though Rex initially does not want the little guy, our little dinosaur follows him around and admires his roar, strength, and terrifiness-es. He asks if he will be as terrifying as his dad one day. Um, well, dad replies, you found me in a cave. I'm not really your dad. So our little dinosaur wonders where he belongs and goes to find out. Eventually, he got lost. But then, who should come through the brush but "Dad!" The story has layers of adoption, family, fathers, and love all throughout and would work great for storytime. ( )
