I adored this book. ^_^ This book picks up right where Roller Rink Witchcraft leaves off. Harper "Foxxy" and Wyatt's relationship is going somewhere in the right direction, the Funky Wheel is as groovy as ever, Gran is still mysterious, Cooper melts my heart, and the town of Waresville is still cooky, witchy, and full of dead bodies. I loved that this book showed more of the town, and it's witchy residents, but I must have more!! The idea of a Witch of the Year is just awesome! I would loved to have been there to witness that. Waresville, seems like it would be that perfect little witchy town, that I have longed to visit (or just live in). One of my favorite parts of this series is the relationship between Harper and Cooper. Those two just go together like witches on broomsticks. He is so adorable, and you can't help but love this kid. When Harper finally started to get into her witchy self, it was like "YAAASSSS!!!!!" I hope that this gets explored more in the next volume. I really want to find out about her life with her mother, and why she doesn't like to practice witchcraft. Seems like there is something sad behind that story, but it needs to be told. When that spell book landed on her head, I let out a squeal of excitement, and was like -finally- maybe this will get her into wanting to practice her craft. Even though the books in this series are somewhat short, it leaves you with a good feeling, and makes you want more. I look forward to the next book in the series, and can not wait to read a full novel from Raven Snow on day. The way she writes is magical, sucks you you in, and leaves you craving for more. Definitely recommend this series to anyone that love witchy things, a good murder mystery, adorable towns, and a good love story. Onderdeel van de reeks(en)
In the town of Waresville, things that go bump in the night are not only encouraged, they're exploited. Haunted tours, magic shops, and a town history that is just strange enough to rake in the tourists are the only elements keeping this small town afloat. But with foot traffic dying and the mystical no longer mystifying like it once did, Waresville is dying. And that's not the only thing- a lot is riding on this year's Witch Week festival- the main survival of the town and the people who call it home. So when contestants in the Witch of the Year competition start turning green and dropping like flies, the whole town is in a panic. In comes Harper Beck, groovy chick, owner of the local disco skate, and not-so-amateur sleuth. Inheriting the Funky Wheel, her home and safe haven, might have dragged her to Waresville, but it's the murder and intrigue that keep her feet firmly on the town's soil. After solving her last psycho killer witch case, she's itching to roll up her sleeves and get to work on this mystery. Unfortunately, her cop boyfriend, Wyatt, and his ten-year-old son have other plans for Harper- including, but not limited to, settling down and putting a permanent hold on her detective career. But when Harper, forced into the competition after discovering last year's winner dead, starts turning green, all talk of family life is put aside. Now, Harper and Wyatt have to race against the clock and her fast approaching death to figure out who's poisoning the contestants. If the pair can't find out in time, Harper might just joined the deceased's ranks and stay green forever. Novella (approx. 30,000 words). Second Volume of the Harper "Foxxy" Beck Mystery Series. It is a standalone (reading prior or future volumes not required to enjoy the book). Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

The second in the Harper "Foxxy" Beck series. This cozy series follows the adventures of Harper who inherited and runs a disco themed roller rink in a town inhabited mostly by witches. Harper who prefers to go by "Foxxy" is the granddaughter of the most powerful witch in town but chooses not to practice. She prefers running her roller rink. However she (true to the cozy genre) seems to a magnet for murder which of course she must solve. These are written with a light hand and if you like a little paranormal in your cozy and a bit of sass and snark these should be right up your alley.
Fans of Amanda M. Lee, Lily Harper Hart, Rose Pressey and Tonya Kappes should find these enjoyable.
To me they were well written and tightly edited. A quick clean enjoyable read with a decent mystery and a fun backstory.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review. ( )
