"Bear Makes Rock Soup," is a collection of old tales from Native American Women. Each story has the traditions of Native American culture laced through it. Animals played a huge role in this culture, so the author made sure to include animals importance to tribe traditions.

The paintings were very well done, and captured the spirit of the text behind it.

While I appreciate what the stories are about and where they come from, I think this book would be hard for a child to swallow whole. If I were to read this to my students, I would break the stories up throughout the week if I was teaching about the Native Americans. ( )
