That moment your life changes. That moment that changes your life. That moment you love someone more than you love yourself. That was the moment we gave our son up for adoption and the moment I was left bare. A wide-open space that would forever be empty. There are moments that define you as a person, moments that prove just how strong you are, moments you push yourself to keep going forward when all you really want to do is give up. It was in one of those moments when I reached out and found him waiting for me. When Shelby Calder left home fifteen years ago, she never planned on returning to the Alaskan town she left behind. But after the death of her grandfather and a bitter divorce, she hopes going home will be a fresh start for her and her ten-year-old son. Zach Watters has made a lot of mistakes in his life. But when he sees Shelby Calder, looking more beautiful than ever, standing outside her childhood home, he promises himself that letting her go won't be a mistake he ever makes again. That is the path Shelby and Zach took. Two soul mates who couldnt deal with a huge life decision when they were young. This set them on a path that kept them apart for 15 years.
(For all those whacked reviews that try to tell you different – they BOTH made the decision – AND anyone that is a single mom/dad worth their salt would also say that even though things didnt work out for what ever reason with the other parent that they do NOT regret going through that because they got their kid out of it. And all the crap about him getting with the BFF and having kids - Who can claim they have no regrets over something they did while drunk or high - heck you might not ever remember doing it but that doesn't mean there arent consequences. At least he was man enough to own up them. Why is there no outrage against the BFF - she knew what she was doing he didnt - he was drowning his grief in booze and drugs - BUT he didnt take the typical road and say sorry its your problem - he did the right thing for the kids and got his life back on track)
If you've read this author before you know she writes great love stories. Yes the books have subject matters that are sad and sometimes heartbreaking but she write the stories in a way that your not crying your eyes out and actually has her characters for the most part act like grown ups and deal with situations in calm and rational ways. Along with the two main characters there are also 3 kids that play a huge part of the book and she shows honest reactions from the kids from being from broken homes.
The next book in the series shoot ahead quite a few years and gives us Zach's daughter story which based on the blurb in the back of this book there may actually be some tears shed in that one. ( )
