Edgar Rice Burroughs was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1875. After serving a short time in the 7th U.S. Cavalry, Burroughs was a shopkeeper, gold miner, cowboy, and policeman before becoming a full-time writer. His first novel, Tarzan of the Apes, was published in 1914, and along with its 22 sequels has sold over 30 million copies in 58 languages. Author of numerous other jungle and science fiction novels and novellas, including The Land That Time Forgot, Burroughs had a writing career that spanned almost 30 years, with his last novel, The Land of Terror, being published in 1941. He died in 1950 at his ranch near Tarzana, the California town named for his legendary hero.… (meer)

Continúan las peripecias de este héroe creado por Burroughs y nos traslada con la imaginación a ese otro planeta, en este libro, la habilidad narrativa del autor le deleitará con las peripecias de su protagonista en Venus.

Fun Burroughs adventure. You like his stories or you don't. This is the usual adventure involving a visitor to an unusual world. He has done it many times before. This is a pretty good example of the 1930s SF adventure. (

Another of the 1939 Retro-Hugo nominees, and the only one of which I had not heard before the nominations came through. It's pretty rubbish, really. There is an interesting evil Venusian city whose ideology is clearly modelled on the Nazis, but essentially this is a tale of Ruritanian conflicts which happen to be on Venus, involving our hero as the intended husband of a beautiful political heiress. There's also a desperate attempt to do a gynocracy which is fortunately abandoned after a chapter or two. (

Classic sword and scifi. This continues the story of Carson Napier, human adventurer who finds himself on the jungle planet of Venus. Like John Carter, he falls in love with a native woman (who amazingly enough is human) and must rescue her, and in this case, her father, from any number of difficult circumstances, while winning over his prospective father in law at the same time. (
