The cover unfolds to give a street map of central London overlaying the underground and train stations serving the area (from St. John's Wood to Elephant & Castle, and the Angel and Old Street stations to Knightsbridge) However no attempt has been made to indicate which lines the stations serve, such as colour coding the little Underground symbols for example.
Taking the second half of Kester Rattenbury's booklet 'the essential Eye' as a basis for this children's version, and simplifying the information still further, and adding stickers; youngsters are presented with some basic facts about the wheel, before being presented with the four views from the wheel: North, West, South & East. But, limiting the landmarks to four per view (which is probably more than enough for most children to absorb on their day trip).
The stickers are probably meant to engage the child in each view, but they fail to provide much help in positioning the landmarks precisely where they would be found in the landscape; and the images themselves are often taken from street level looking up at the monument, which adds to the confusion when the child is looking down on them from over 400 feet up.
Still, not the worst guide aimed at under 10s. ( )
