Each of the 3 books in the trilogy has its own plot. It is best to read them in order but they will still make sense on their own. The trilogy begins with Me Before You. The setting is present day England. Louisa Clark, the main character, comes from lower middle class family where she lives with her parents, her grandfather, sister and her sister's son in the same small house in a tiny English village. She lives an ordinary life working in a coffee shop, has a steady boyfriend who doesn't commit himself to the relationship and is generally bored with her life. She has been pigeon holed as the less intelligent of the two sisters and resents having to live with household finances being siphoned off to support her sisters schooling. Wanting something different with more money, she accepts an odd position being a friendship support person to a quadriplegic /former Adrenalin junkie, named Will Traynor. His family is very wealthy from old money and can take care of all his physical needs but his parents are at a loss to convince Will that he has a reason to live. After an interview with Will's mother, the Traynors are willing to pay handsomely for Louisa to stay with Will, befriend him and infuse him with a will to live thus resurrecting his sense of purpose in this world. The money offered was tempting but the job description even more interesting. After she began the job and enduring a rocky start, Will's, intelligence, wit, sense of humor along with his helplessness endures Will to Louisa and a lasting friendship ensues. This is just the first book. The second book Louisa has a bad fall where she is unconscious and needs paramedics to assist her. After a stint in the hospital, she agrees to go to counseling and ends up meeting the paramedic who assisted her in the accident. (I am being vague on purpose as to not spoil any outcomes in either story) In this story, she is surprised when a girl approaches her saying she is Will's daughter! How could this be she says. The story continues on introducing a new set of circumstances which leads to the 3rd book, Still Me. In Still Me, Louisa's search for herself takes her to New York City. She has an excellent reference from the Traynors for the position of companion for the Russian wife of a fabulously wealthy New York businessman, Leonard Gopnik. . The much younger Russian wife, Agnes Gopnik,has difficulty keeping any personal assistants because of her demanding expectations. Louisa, through all she learned with assisting Will, is successful in winning the respect and trust of Mrs. Gopnik but this ends up backfiring upon her.
