What started as a game turns into something much more deadly in this fast-paced YA thriller, perfect for fans of Natasha Preston!

Harper Jacobs and her friends are just looking for some fun when they decide to start breaking into one another's houses. It's enough to give them a rush, and it's pretty harmless since they all promise not to take anything that can't be replaced. But when they target the home of a classmate, it crosses a line, and one of the group turns up dead.

Harper needs to figure out what's happening fast...or else she might be next.

I quit this book about 40% of the way through because the narrator was too harsh and unsympathetic for me. She came across as being cold and mean, without motivation, particularly in her reaction to the announcement of a fellow student's suicide. I wasn't able to sympathize with the character, and this particular point for me as a reader with mental illness was a dealbreaker for me. ( )

A group of rich high-school associates ( I won't call them friends because they hang around together but they are almost rivals) come up with a "game" to keep them entertained. When someone in the group goes away for the weekend, another person from the group will try and rob their house taking something tacky without getting caught.
Harper is the last one to succeed and wants the group to stop but then one of the members is found dead of a supposed suicide. Harper is convinced something else is happening here and its got to do with the stupid game. Will someone else be the next to die? ( )

I received an ARC from the publisher, SOURCEBOOKS Fire in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

The Last to Die starts off with a lot of interesting potential but I felt like it fell flat in the end, like the author was trying to finish the book up quickly. I do feel that the author has a good writing style and I would be interested in reading more of her work in the future but this book wasn't really for me. ( )

Fast easy read. Characters are shallow and self absorbed, just like real life rich teens. It is nice to see the female teens with self-confidence and not obsessing over boys. Good for fans of Pretty Little Liars. ( )
