This book reveals the Ancient Egyptian knowledge of harmonic proportion, sacred geometry, and number mysticism, as manifested in their texts, temples, tombs, art, hieroglyphs, ...etc., throughout their known history. It shows how the Egyptians designed their buildings to generate cosmic energy, and the mystical application of numbers in Egyptian works. The book explains in detail the harmonic proportion of about 20 Ancient Egyptian buildings throughout their recorded history. ( )
The expanded edition of The Ancient Egyptian Metaphysical Architecture revises the original book published in 2000 and 2003, Egyptian Harmony: The Visual Music, and further focuses on the general role of ancient Egyptian architecture and its connections to spiritual concerns in Egyptian society. While some of this was explored (albeit in a different manner) in Egyptian Pyramids Revisited, this wider-ranging discussion isn't about pyramids alone, but about architectural choices that show how spirituality in early Egyptian lives was reflected though their structures and construction choices. By connecting Ancient Egyptian architecture to Egyptian perceptions about their environment and the relationship of spiritual forces they perceived in that environment, Moustafa Gadalla succeeds in creating a powerful and unusual link between metaphysics and construction. This theme carries through this entire book, from building design choices and geometry to the specifics of roofing forms and Egyptian approaches to construction and placement: "The Ancient Egyptian framework was usually a square, representing the manifested world (squaring of the circle)." While some of the earlier books in this series set the foundation for a discussion quite accessible to lay audiences, the mathematical and builder's approach of this spiritual and architectural examination makes The Ancient Egyptian Metaphysical Architecture of special and particular interest and recommendation to architectural historians and students of early Egyptian cosmology alike.
