Being a child of the 1950’s I can remember watching the weekly television program known as “Route 66.” So, with my reading this book I decided to watch two episodes of it on YouTube, and I came to realize that the show basically dealt with social problems and customs. The show dealt with two young travelers exploring the country in their Corvette looking for the right place to settle down while in search of themselves in the towns along Route 66. Route 66 has been called the “mother” road, since it had been the most travelled road before the interstates going from the east in Chicago clear to California.

This collection of novellas centers around the journeys of ten women has they find their HEA relationships which can only be sealed with a kiss. The stories been set in different towns and over the course of several decades, give its readers a sense regarding the nuance in the changes of relationships during these years. Even though this book’s readers might not have lived along this iconic roadway, they be taken back to their idyllic hometowns and the relationships they once had.

The book’s title is essentially a rip-off of a classic song by the Nat King Cole Trio, “Get Your Kicks on Route 66.” Both the book and the song infer that you can find the pleasures you’re seeking can be found along this roadway, which is what I found as I stepped into the shoes of the female protagonist in each of these stories; and which this book’s readers might find themselves doing as they’re reading. It is for this reason I’ve given this anthology and its authors 5 STARS. ( )
