Dirty Little Secret (Forbidden Desires) by Kendall Ryan It's no secret that Kendall Ryan can get down and dirty with the best of them. Her talent shines through in every tale she pens, however there is also a sweetness to the naughtiness that keeps me thirsting for more. Dirty Little Secret is more than just a sexy romp, it touches on some hard subjects. Like obsession, fantasy and opening up to love. There's an edge of intensity that tends to overshadow the romance but the emotions add to the mystique of Emma and Gavin's relationship. Ultimately, Ms. Ryan tempts readers into continuing the journey in the future with this alluring duo. A wonderful start to an intriguing series. I am a fan of Kendall so when this book teased me, yup I had to read and am glad I did. I always felt that Emma and Gavin belonged together and was rooting from the beginning, yes sometimes Gavin misbehaved but I disagreed with some of the other readers when they stated he was such a big jerk. Now don't get me wrong, I will never condone when someone mistreat others, but did he really?...on too the next A lot of angst and sexual tension going on here between the hard, controlled Gavin, intelligent and smooth Emma, and fun loving Cooper. The story unfolds nicely as the three try to find a suitable arrangement, and as Cooper tries to get Gavin to admit to his feelings for Emma. Kendall Ryan has a great voice and writing style. She chooses her words carefully and they hit the target. All was going well for me until chapters 20 & 21... did I miss something?? All of a sudden there were intense feelings and references to moments between Gavin and Emma that hadn't been mentioned before, as a reason for their deepening feelings. The last we heard was that it had been 5 days since they saw or made contact, and the last contact had been a snarky text volley because Emma had bathed at Cooper's. There's a disconnect all of a sudden that distracts from the story and doesn't let it unfold naturally. Things had been going along so well! It's as if a few chapters were thrown out and there are missing pieces.. it doesn't make sense. The time hops are too spread out and now I'm annoyed instead of enjoying the way things were naturally unfolding. I get that Ryan may have needed to speed things up a bit, but don't leave us out of it because now it just feels unnatural and not believable. Disappointing. *I received an arc from the publisher through NetGalley for an honest review geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

Gavin Kingsley burst into my life in a sharp and unexpected twist of fate. You know his type - arrogant, dangerously handsome and impossible to ignore. Something dark within him calls to the shadows inside me. I long for the kind of heart-wrenching passion I've only read about, and his tragic past reads like one of my favorite literary classics. Raw. Visceral. Captivating. Together, we're a perfect mess. The deeper I fall into his world, the more I crave him like a drug - he pushes every boundary I have and challenges everything I thought I wanted. I want to unlock his heart. I want his dirty secrets. But in the end, will he be the blade that cuts me...or the bond that makes my life complete? Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |

It's a category that doesn't bear any resemblance to reality, because the hero is off the scale alpha. But it's not 'dirty' and I don't know why that word is thrown around so much especially in book titles. The romantic moments and the romance overall are sweet and sincere.
I found the story quite interesting and the heroine Emma - the quiet librarian cliche - moving out of her comfort zone and looking for adventure was a reasonable storyline. The contrast is white on black with the man who intrigued her, Gavin, who it turns out was the owner of a pleasure club. But he's not a bad ass, maybe athard ass at times.
It's not as spicy as the book jacket blurb implies - it's quite tame actually, especially with Gavin's younger brother, Cooper, playing the good guy, there's plenty of scope for both the older and younger brothers to have their own stories as the series progresses. ( )
