Again another well-written mystery from this author, the third in this series, containing well-rounded interesting characters.

Der Polizist Carter McLean hatte ein Flugzeug gechartert, um mit seinen Freunden einen Junggesellenabschied zu feiern. Doch das Flugzeug stürzt ab und Carter überlebt als einziger. Obwohl das nun schon eine Weile her ist, lässt ihn das alles nicht los. Er hat Schuldgefühle und will nun auf besondere Art Wiedergutmachung leisten. Die Frau von einem seiner verstorbenen Freunde verschwand anderthalb Jahre vor dem Absturz spurlos. Da war zwar ein Zimmer voller Blut, doch der Fall wurde nicht geklärt. Carter kniet sich in den Fall und scheint nicht mehr so recht zurechnungsfähig zu sein. Daher werden DI Rowan Jackman und DS Marie Evans in die Sache eingeschaltet.
Dies ist bereits der dritte Band der Fenland-Police-Reihe und für mich der erste. Der Schreibstil ist flüssig zu lesen und die Geschichte spannend und sehr düster.
Die Charaktere sind gut und individuell beschrieben. Fast alles sind sie bei der Polizei beschäftigt und kennen sich.
Es gibt jede Menge Hinweise, doch welche sind für den Fall wirklich relevant. Als Leser bleibt man bis zum schlüssigen Ende darüber im Unklaren.
Ein außergewöhnlicher Krimi, der mir gut gefallen hat. ( )

This isn't the regular Jackman and Evans investigation.While Rowan and Marie are working on a cold case, this story focuses on another Detective, Carter who is working a stalking case but wants to be put on the cold case. Carter sees dead people, not just any dead people but his 4 friends who all dies in a plane crash where he was the only survivor. He feels like he needs to complete certain tasks do his friends can rest. The first 3 are easy but the last task has to do with the cold case Jackman is working .
As usual, the story is fast paced, exciting and I didn't see the end coming the way it did.
Richard Armitage does an amazing job not only with the narration but with the specific accents required for the story location. I look forward to any Joy Ellis/ Richard Armitage collaborations.
