Mr Mattson's Automotive Upholstery & Interior Restoration is an excellent addition to the automotive repair genre. The author introduces the tools and materials of the trade going so far as instructing the reader on how to set up a shop for effective and efficient work. He then walks the reader through the restoration and repair of the various elements of the auto's interior, i.e. seats, door panels, arm rests, carpeting, convertible tops, etc. One area that is not touched upon is the dash board and dashpad. The book is rich with photographic documentation of the processes which prove very helpful. The step-by-step guidance is effective and will help the do-it-yourself restorers to produce quality work.
One of the unfortunate downsides of performing upholstery work is that it requires some relatively specialized tools, e.g. a heavy duty sewing machine, to perform the tasks. This is not a criticism of the book, but rather a fact of the type of work being described. This may result in the book being seen as somewhat impractical for the home restorerer since the 'price of admission' is higher than other restoration tasks. That said, this is an excellent volume that fills a niche and does it very well. ( )

This book is a great resource for those restoration projects. My husband loves how helpful it is, with information about what tools to use, etc.

What a fantastic source of material! My neighbor and I are restoring a 1966 Chevy pickup that belonged to his father. We are almost to the point where we will be tackling the interior.
