But don't look too deeply- it's filled with highly improbable events. ( ) I know there's a whole cottage industry devoted to rewriting Pride and Prejudice but I heard good things about this one and took a chance. I really loved it. The author has done an amazing job both with switching the genders of many of the characters and in updating the story. There was never a point where I thought something felt wrenched to fit the plot of the original tale. If I didn't know Pride and Prejudice I would never have known as the narrative flows and stands on its own. Both leads clashed realistically and I never thought either one of them was being unreasonable, which is the one thing I ask for in a romance. Definitely worth the time. I thought for sure I would love this book and I was so wrong. The main character is so obnoxious. She kept going back and forth on decisions she made and being overall very dramatic. It was more than just that - a lot of things rubbed me the wrong way with this story. Will not be keeping this book in my personal library. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Darcy Fitzwilliam is 29, beautiful, successful, and brilliant. She dates hedge funders and basketball stars and is never without her three cellphones-one for work, one for play, and one to throw at her assistant. Darcy's never fallen in love, never has time for anyone else's drama, and never goes home for Christmas if she can help it. But when her mother falls ill, she comes home to Pemberley, Ohio, to spend the season with her family. Her parents throw their annual Christmas bash, where she meets one Luke Bennet, the smart, sardonic slacker son of their neighbor. Luke is 32-years-old and has never left home. He's a carpenter and makes beautiful furniture, and is content with his simple life. He comes from a family of five brothers, each one less ambitious than the other. When Darcy and Luke fall into bed after too many eggnogs, Darcy thinks it's just another one night stand. But why can't she stop thinking of Luke? What is it about him? And can she fall in love, or will her pride and his prejudice against big-city girls stand in their way? Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
