I want thank Netgalley HARLEQUIN - Hanover Square Press (U.S. & Canada)
Hanover Square Press and Jack Heath for my advanced copy of Hangman, I also want to apologize for my delayed review I finished this book in a day and was not able to write my review till today. Hangman is one of those books that you finish in one sitting add can’t wait to get more. The FBI consultant in this book is a combination of Hannibal Lecter and Dexter put together and it’s fantastic! Bears yes that means there are some awesome details that are so gruesome you’ll either love it or hate it. So, if your idea of a great lunch isn’t somebody’s foot, then I would say skip it, but if your idea of great thriller is gore, guts and a thrill ride then this is the book for you. 5 Stars all the way. I just hope there’s much more from this author to come.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the book. I went into this book cold; not knowing anything about the author or the book itself. Every once and a while I buy books based upon a "feeling" or the cover. So, in this case, the cover intrigued me. I'm home. Essentially, quarantined like the rest of the country, so I decided to take a chance. I am so glad I did. Although not a great book. It is certainly one spending some time with. I don't want to give any part of the story away because a hint here or there would truly ruin the journey. All I can say is that it really will keep you guessing and intrigued until the last few pages. Although the summer is over, this would easily be described as a "great summer read." ( )

Wow what a sick, twisted, darkly funny, well written thoroughly entertaining book this turned out to be,
Definitely not for the squeamish.
The book says it is for fans of the Dexter series and Hannibal, but it is more entertaining. The mystery is actually very well thought out and well paced, and the main character Timothy Blake is one strange, dangerous, extremely smart, and very funny cannibal.
Read this, but remember you were warned! ( )

Imagine Charlie Huston’s Joe Pitt vampire character crossed with Dexter Morgan then turned full on Hannibal Lecter and you might have an idea the tone of Hangman.

Timothy Blake, codename “Hangman,” is a multi-faceted anti-hero who is as endearing with his self-deprecating wit as he is disturbing with his craving for eating human flesh, indulged by the FBI as a sort of payment for services rendered. In this case, for his assistance in finding a missing boy. The abduction serves as a device through which Blake’s character is slowly revealed, while secondary characters, including the charming Agent Reese Thistle, are introduced.

Hangman is almost non-stop action-packed. From the missing kid to key clues to complicated dates with someone Blake may or may not want to eat, there is barely time for a reader to breathe. I admit my sleuth sense was off when it came to the real bad guy because the book moved fast. I was so fascinated by Blake I just didn’t see the ending coming.

And his backstory… Oh boy… I don’t think I’ll get that image out of my head any time soon.

So why not five stars? Few books are flawless, though Hangman’s close. The beginning read as bumpy to me. I’d have rather started with the abduction than scenes from the death house, though I guess the information becomes relevant. I also think in a story about an abduction, there were a few too many people taken. Finally, Hangman is set in Texas, USA, involves the FBI, but is written by what I can only glean from his bio as is an Australian author. I thought I was reading British English for a bit, with spellings like “kerb” instead of “curb,” but what little I can dig up says it’s probably an Australian variety, more similar to British English than American. Is this a big issue? Not so much, but it is occasionally jarring and purely a matter of preference. I do read Australian and British authors, but this one caught me off guard. Overall, an excellent read with a captivating cast. Recommended!

Thank you to NetGalley, Jack Heath, and the publisher for providing an ARC of Hangman. ( )

An FBI mystery with a twist! Timothy Blake is a consultant, of sorts. He is smart, loves difficult puzzles and is a phycopath. One thing that no one knows, is that Blake is a cannibal, yes you read correctly. Bought in to help solve a kidnapping, Blake shows himself to be a very complex character, and surprisingly likable. This is the first in a series by Australian author Jack Heath and I'm not sure if I'll keep reading. Definitely different, and probably not for the faint harted...... 2.5 stars ( )
