The Teen Titans are settling into their new lives in Titans Tower in San Francisco...even if answering to Damian Wayne takes a lot of getting used to. But Beast Boy, Raven, Starfire and Kid Flash soon have a lot more than an overbearing Robin to worry about-a prison breakout has led to a string of disappearances, and some of them hit close to home. Now, to rescue the kidnapped, the Titans will have to go toe-to-fin with King Shark, and the Titans are out of their depth...literally! But a new teen hero named Jackson Hyde has seen the Titans in action, and he's headed to Titans Tower to try to join the team. Will Aqualad be enough to turn the tide for the Teen Titans...or will the mystery of his powers unleash an even deadlier threat to the team? Writer Benjamin Percy (Green Arrow) and artist Khoi Pham (X-Force) continue the adventures of the heroes of tomorrow, today!.… (meer)

Teen Titans Vol. 2: The Rise of Aqualad (Rebirth) by Benjamin Percy (illustrated by Khoi Pham) is a graphic novel which tells of the origins of Aqualad and how he joins the Teen Titans. This graphic novel collects Teen Titans #6, #7, #9-11, #13, and #14.

As the Teen Titans are settling into their new tower in San Francisco, a prison breakout happens and some suspicious disappearances are happening with it. In order to save the kidnapped people, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and Kid Flash have to deal with King Shark, as well as get used to Damian Wayne’s (Robin) unusual management style.

Jackson Hyde (Aqualad), seeing the Teen Titans in action, knows he has powers which can be of use and head to the tower to join the team.

I enjoyed Teen Titans Vol. 1: Damian Knows Best very much and was looking forward to reading Teen Titans Vol. 2: The Rise of Aqualad by Benjamin Percy (illustrated by Khoi Pham). What I got was a pretty good adventure story and a refreshing take on Aqualad.

The art was solid, but not very consistent. I wish DC Comics would plan the graphic novels collections a bit better and assign (if possible) the art teams with that in mind.

The Aqualad arc, even though it was clichéd, was solid, good storytelling and strong narrative. The pace was good as well, I enjoyed the banter and character interactions much more than the main adventure story.

The writer kept this arc simple, enjoyable, and character driven. Overall this was a good read, the characters are different enough to make a new story exciting, but still have the traits of the beloved heroes we came to know. ( )

There is a new face in the Titan's clubhouse. His name is Jackson Hyde, and he's trying to find himself. He has tattoos that help him control water (he explains it as he can talk to the water). The team is already in flux, Wally having been kicked off and everyone chafing under Robin's "Leadership". And then they have to go against King Shark and then a bigger villain, Black Manta.

It was an interesting addition to the team, and I'm hoping that we see Wally soon again too.

I received this book via Netgalley thanks to DC Entertainment. ( )
