Nice narrating by Bahni Turpin, and pretty cool magic wielding, but I'm afraid I've grown weary of the story line. For me, this has begun to feel like just a vehicle for endless battles where character traits and motives exchange places to enable more excuses for battle. I'm not saying it's unrealistic, just that, if it cannot come to a peaceable conclusion after two long books, I've lost faith that it ever will. ( ) The first book was better, as I continued to read the second book I got confused since all the characters interest and actions kept on changing through out and it seemed that the miscommunication between all the characters could have been solved easily if they all just talked it out vs focusing on merely just the actions of one another. I feel like I've been reading this book forever, checking the audiobook out from the library multiple times, and therein lies the reason this took so long. I go through phases where the only way I read is via audiobook, but sometimes I need to absorb a book visually. I read 60% of this book in 4 hours, it's a wonderful book and I am looking forward to the 3rd installment hopefully coming out in 2021. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

HTML: A GOOD MORNING AMERICA BOOK CLUB PICK After battling the impossible, Zélie and Amari have finally succeeded in bringing magic back to the land of Orïsha. But the ritual was more powerful than they could've imagined, reigniting the powers of not only the maji, but of nobles with magic ancestry, too. Now, Zélie struggles to unite the maji in an Orïsha where the enemy is just as powerful as they are. But when the monarchy and military unite to keep control of Orïsha, Zélie must fight to secure Amari's right to the throne and protect the new maji from the monarchy's wrath. With civil war looming on the horizon, Zélie finds herself at a breaking point: she must discover a way to bring the kingdom together or watch as Orïsha tears itself apart. Children of Virtue and Vengeance is the stunning sequel to Tomi Adeyemi's New York Times-bestselling debut Children of Blood and Bone, the first book in the Legacy of Orïsha trilogy. Praise for Children of Blood and Bone: "Poses thought-provoking questions about race, class and authority that hold up a warning mirror to our sharply divided society." –The New York Times "A fast-paced, excellently crafted hero's journey...populated with compelling and nuanced black characters." –NPR "A debut novel that is nearly impossible to put down."–USA Today Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
