It's a very satisfying ending to the series. The into had me flipping through the pages when I started to make sure that Winter, who we're first introduced to, did find grounding. Jack we've met briefly in the other books and it was nice to get to know him better. We get a little bit of time with the characters I came to know so well in the other books in the series and I like where everyone ends up. The story has enough twists and turns that I didn't want to put it down and there was nothing that made me go, "wait a second...". This flowed smoother than the other two books for me.

I also appreciated that Jack and Winter already know each other as the book begins. I'm tired of reading meet-cute stories so thanks for jumping us right in. I've come to realize that I like JAK so much because she structures her stories like plays, in that she doesn't write linear but gives us the important background when it becomes necessary for the story to move forward.

There's a storage locker scene that had me very scared for a piece of furniture because I was getting flashbacks to Falling Awake, another favourite. Well done, that.

Extra star for the return of Arizona Snow and the nod to the Burning Cove hotel. The thing I loved most about Arcane was the inter-connectedness of the world across her titles and I've missed that. I've always loved Arizona. I would happily read an novella where she finds a man who matches her. Or even just her own adventure. She's a fabulous character. Get on it, JAK! ( )

Jack Lancaster has investigated fires for years, drawn to cold cases his mind is fixated on these cases and on solving them, sometimes to his detriment. Winter Meadows is a meditation therapist who leads him back to peace about the fires but troubles him by her presence. He's attracted, she's worried about what he will think if they get involved and he realises that she's quite a gifted hypnotist. Meanwhile Quinton Zane is back and becoming active again and gunning for Jack and his fellow foster sons.
It was a fun read, the characters really appealed to me and I enjoyed it. The conclusion satisfied me. ( )

Untouchable by Jayne Ann Krentz is an engrossing mystery with a riveting plot and engaging protagonists. Although this newest release is the third (and final) installment in the Cutler, Sutter & Salinas series, it can easily be read as a standalone.

Jack Lancaster has turned to meditation instructor Winter Meadows to help him gain control of his lucid dreams. He utilizes his unique ability to solve cold cases but recently, he has found them difficult to manage. Jack also uses this skill to track Quinton Zane, the cult leader who murdered his mother and attempted to kill him, and his foster brothers, Cabot Sutter and Max Cutler. Aided by their foster father, Anson Salinas, the three men have been trying to track down Zane whom they believe faked his death then left the country after he murdered their mothers. After Winter is assaulted by a former client turned stalker, Jack is certain Zane manipulated her attacker as a way of getting to him. With Winter's assistance, Jack begins what he hopes will be his final quest to capture Zane.

Jack is extremely intelligent with keen instincts but he has been rather enigmatic in previous books in the series. His special ability to use lucid dreams to aid him in finding clues to solve cold cases is quite fascinating. Jack is intense, serious and extremely focused as he and Winter begin their investigation that will hopefully lead him to Zane.

Having recently moved to Eclipse Bay, Winter is struggling to build her business. She is a meditation instructor and a skilled hypnotist but she keeps this ability to herself. Winter is calm under pressure and unflappable in the face of danger.

Jack's hunt for Zane sometimes appears hopeless since he maintains such a low profile. But Jack knows how his nemesis thinks so he is able to weave together the somewhat nebulous threads he discovers to figure out how to locate Zane. Winter is instrumental in helping Jack narrow down exactly which leads to follow. Will Jack and Winter locate Zane before he puts his diabolical plan in motion? Will Jack, Cabot, Max and Anson finally bring Quinton Zane to justice?

Untouchable is a clever mystery with a unique storyline and likable lead characters. The investigation into Zane is fast-paced and compelling. Jack and Winter are endearing characters with relatable shortcomings and strengths. Jayne Ann Krentz's incorporation of the paranormal abilities into the storyline provides added interest to the hunt for Quinton Zane. Although it is a little sad to say goodbye to favorite characters, old and new readers will enjoy this satisfying conclusion of the Cutler, Sutter & Salinas series. ( )

A quick read with entertaining characters, but it felt little shallow. ( )

In this final book in the Quinton Zane trilogy that began with When Have All the Girls Gone, then Promise Not to Tell and finally this book Quinton Zane was a cult leader who made a great deal of money off of the women in his cult, but they hid the money from him. He torched the compound and cop Anton Salinas managed to save the children but wasn't able to save the mothers. All of the children were able to find homes with family members except three boys, Max Cutler, Cabot Sutter, and Jack Lancaster. Max, Cabot, and Anton opened a PI business while Jack went from the academic world to writing books on criminality to working cold cases that involve fire.

Jack has a way of lucid dreaming that takes him into a trance that helps him solve his cases. This lucid dreaming takes him into a maze of fire. He's tried to study them scientifically but has been told that he needs psychiatric help. Instead, he goes to the new mediative specialist, Winter Meadows, in Eclipse Bay, Oregan where he has just moved. She helps him to see that using fire doesn't help him and that he should change his dreamscape to ice and create a world of his own rather than a maze. It immediately helps him. She also has him create a safe word that will help him escape from his dreamscape at any time.

Sparks fly between the two and once he is no longer a client the two agree to see each other and share a searing kiss. That night Kendall Mosely, a man from her past who had been stalking her at her old job and was the reason she left her old job at a spa, showed up in her cottage to kill her. But Winter is a hypnotist and she had placed more than one hypnotic suggestion in his mind when she left. One was that he would become obsessed with running rather than people and the other was that if he saw her again and she said the words Winnie the Pooh he would freeze. When he froze she was able to get the knife out of his hand and was beginning to question him about how he had found her which was through someone online when lightning struck and broke him out of the trance. Luckily Jack showed up just then to help her with Mosely and he attacked him when he pulled a gun on her, causing him to hit the coffee table and knock Mosely out.

Jack believes that Zane is behind this and he's right. Zane has been working on taking over his biological father's company. His dad got some woman pregnant years ago and she sold him for a fix to a couple. Now he knows who his real father is and he wants revenge and to make money of course. Zane knows that he needs to get rid of Jack who is his biggest threat in finding him. He hires two mercenaries, Victoria Sloan and Devlin Knight to help him with his project and to clean up after him after he winds up Mosley online. Mosely was supposed to kill Winter then go and kill Jack her supposed lover. They believe he is going to offer them money and power so that they can retire.

This is a fitting end to the trilogy. However, you don't have to have read the other three books to read and enjoy this book, though I highly recommend it so you can get the full scope of Zane's treachery from the other books. I love the characters of Jack and Winter. They are very mild mannered and most odd balled of the group which makes them lovable as people. The story is interesting too. I really liked this book a lot. I give it five out of five stars. ( )
