This book is amazing at explaining how just because we are different colors, doesn't mean we need to be separated. The book talks about how 3 colors separated themselves from each other and it took one blue and one yellow creating a green for everyone to be in one community rather than 3. This book did an amazing job through both visuals and words on how separate groups can be mean until they realize how amazing it is to just be one big colorful group. I use it as a read aloud with my kindergarten class to discuss diversity and segregation, as well as multiculturalism and acceptance. This book is about different colors, and how they each have a distinct characteristic that defines them. They begin to have problems with each other and end up residing in separate areas. Then at the end, two colors decide to mix and create an entirely new color. Then all the colors start mixing with each other and they create a variety of unique colors. I think this book is great to show students the importance of diversity. It is also a fun book with lots of colors that can be interesting to students who are intimidated by reading. This book starts with the colors live happily amongst each other. One day the color Red declares himself the best color. Once this happens, they move into their own neighborhoods that are color coded. One day Blue and Yellow fall in love and have a baby, Green. The other colors become so happy at the sight of Green, even Red. This book shows that love and tolerance are the best way. It is a great read aloud book for children as that it is focused on that color doesn't make someone better or worse. Loving one another makes us all the best we can be.
